This book was extremely well written and was just like the others mentioned- full of suspense, with a dash of romance. That said- I have to say I will NOT be getting any more of this series. Why? It was just too real! OMG! I don't think there was one time that I had to question the lead characters movements or motives, or anything else in this story. I was thrilled with the author, in that she didn't have the clues, or situations, or suspects over-looked, or misunderstood, or ignored. I could visualize this whole book happening exactly how it was written. The sick, evil, perverted things happening in today's world are in this book. I have to say I woke having a nightmare for the first time in years, all due to this book. If you consider this kind of reading, 'enjoyment'- go for it, but I just can't handle it. Unfortunately, it's also ruined my view of small quaint towns too. This author should be in the 'hard-core murder mystery' category, not 'romantic suspense' category.

In the old pre- days, it was a lot easier to keep track of the books on your TBR list. Having a book to read meant a physical book you brought home from the library or book store, so you always knew exactly what you had onhand to read. Now? Not so much. Now, it's way too easy to keep adding more and more books to that good ol' , until there are so many loaded on there, you don't know for sure what the heck you have.

So, what did I think about THIS book? I guess you could say it was a pleasant surprise. A very pleasant surprise. I don't know how long it's been lurking on my , or what prompted me to buy it in the first place, but I sure am glad I found it.

LOVED it! Good writing, good characters and story, a mystery (which I didn't figure out!) involving a serial killer, and a loverly romance thrown in, to boot. What's not to like?

Better yet? This book is apparently the first of a series... so there are MORE books by this author for me to read. Um, I don't THINK I already bought them... but I'll have to check. If I haven't already, I'm certainly gonna! This was a new author to me, but I'm already a fan of her work. Can't wait to read more!
This book had me right from the beginning. I read it everywhere I could...and then re-read certain parts. It's more than a mystery, it's more than a thriller. It's a world of believable people operating in a very gruesome situation. This is author takes the time for the reader to get to know the team, Hope Valley & the foibles. If it wasn't for the gruesome activity - I wouldn't mind spending time there. Kelly is a woman that takes the time to get to know her town & the people that she works with. She also knows who may or may not do what. She a real woman, flawed, dedicated, loyal & with none of that 'I slipped on my blah blah lace panties under my uniform" stuff. She & the male, Dean were both professional, they never put their increasing attraction before the case. I really appreciate that.
I also enjoyed relationships between Stacey and her family and the rest of the Hope Valley residents. I really appreciated the great job of showing what can happen to an injured Iraq vet, even with family support. There was Also shown domestic violence, its impact and the disdain & disrespect that many have for female law enforcement. In all, Stacey is smart, competent, professional, and feminine.
This book is thankfully, one of a series. I can't wait to see what happens next.
BTW - you will be on the edge of your seat!
I woke up at 300 am (home alone) and could sleep. I decided to start reading this book to help me go back to sleep ... In the Epilogue a lady is kidnapped, brutally raped and murdered... In Chapter 1, I read about other women being murdered in similar ways... Needless to say, i did not go back to sleep (lol)-- so do not read this in the dark.. hahaha

This is a mystery story more than a romance story.. not the types of romance I read.. yet I read it and enjoyed it. I would have preferred more sex and romance.. lol.. but it is not what the author was after. Even with out that, I really did enjoy the book. Great story and I SWORE, I knew who the killer was.. You know the person mentioned in the beginning for a brief second and never mentioned again. Well.. I WAS WRONG!!!! -- If you enjoy mystery romance.. this is your book... Great Characters... strong female character mentally and emotionally and yet still a woman in every other way... She is admirable and that helped the story alot from my perspective.
Compelling and brutal

This stand alone is easy to follow yet difficult to read due to emotions evoked. Graphic violence. No editing errors or drag-you-down drama.

The storyline is intriguing. Law enforcement procedures, actions and reactions are realistic. Several twists throughout to keep the reader guessing.

Believable characters with distinct personalities. Thought-provoking and memorable dialogue.

No desire to re-read this story. I am always interested in works by this author.
Fade to Black introduces the Black CATs, an FBI team tasked with solving Internet related violent crimes. This first book focuses on the case of the Reaper, who auctions off the opportunity to select an aspect of a murder, which is filmed and viewed online. He has eight kills accomplished before the Black CATs learn of him and start the chase. The novel features the romance between a team member and the Sheriff of the rural Virginia town where the Reaper is based. The book is very well crafted, with the mystery truly difficult to solve and the romance allowed to develop naturally for the context. The book was also well written and edited, missing the grammatical and typographical errors so common in many e-books today. I was so impressed that I downloaded and finished the next two books in the series within a day, and went in search of the fourth (Black Out!), with is still not available due to some issues with the author's schedule. If you are a fan of well written romantic suspense, buy this - you won't be disappointed.
